EUDR: Wood Species (Scientific Product Names) in the Supplier Portal
If you supply a customer with products that contain wood or are made from wood, you may need to declare the wood species – also called the scientific product name – for that product before your customer can submit their Due Diligence Statement (DDS). This is because the EUDR (Art. 9(1)(a)) requires operators to state the common name and full scientific name of the species used in a wood-commodity product as part of their Due Diligence Statement. This article explains where you can provide wood species data in the osapiens Supplier Portal, and when your customer may require it before you can submit your response.
What is a wood species / scientific product name?
The wood species / scientific product name is the botanical species behind a wood-commodity product or delivery. You can either pick a standard DIN EN 13556 wood species code from the list or enter a custom scientific/common name pair if the species that you need is not in that list. A single wood-commodity item can have more than one species attached if it is a mix.
Where do I provide the species in the Supplier Portal?
On the land plot
Go to the page EUDR land plots and click on a land plot to open its detail page (or create a new land plot).
Make sure Wood is selected under Commodity – a Scientific product names field then appears on the land plot.
This also works via the Excel/CSV upload template, using the column scientificProductNames – enter a DIN EN 13556 code or a custom name in scientificName~commonName format, separating multiple species with a comma.

On the EUDR batch
For plot-based batches that you create on the Products page, the batch itself has its own Scientific product names field. This is useful if you want to add a species at the batch level without editing every underlying land plot.
If one or more of the land plots assigned to the batch contain wood, the batch requires at least one wood species before you can continue – you will see the note Add at least one wood species for this batch. This is required because one or more assigned land plots contain wood.
The button Next is greyed out until you add one or more wood species. It is additive: If your land plots already carry wood species, both are combined once the batch is converted into an assessment.

Do I have to provide a wood species?
It depends on the configuration of your customer. Some customers configure osapiens HUB so that you cannot submit your response to a product or purchase order information request if it contains a wood-commodity line item without at least one wood species attached – sourced from either the batch data or the land plot data on that response. One wood species per line item is enough; you do not need to add one to every land plot if the batch-level field already covers it.
Note
This requirement, when your customer has it enabled, only applies to requests you receive after your customer has enabled it. It does not require you to go back and add species to land plots or batches you already submitted earlier.
Which of my responses does this affect?
This affects only responses to product information requests and purchase order information requests for wood-commodity products.
