Using the osapiens Supplier Portal in the CBAM context
As part of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), companies subject to the regulation are obliged to request emissions-related data from their suppliers for certain goods imported into the EU (aluminium, fertilizers, iron/steel, electricity, hydrogen and cement), collect this data and report it to the competent authorities.
Responding to requests
If you produce aluminium, fertilizer, iron/steel, electricity, hydrogen and cement outside the EU and supply this to customers within the EU, it is possible that your customers will request CBAM-relevant emission data for the products from you.
These customer requests are managed in the osapiens Supplier Portal on the REQUESTS page and are of the type Emission data request (CBAM).
In the following sections, we would like to explain in more detail how to respond to CBAM requests.
Further Informationen
A detailed step-by-step guide to answering CBAM requests can be found in the article Supplier Portal - Requests: Answering an information request for CBAM emission data
What criteria is the request based on?
The request is based on the standard defined by the EU Commission for the collection of emission data for your products.
What information does a CBAM emission data request include?
The request contains the following rubrics and fields:
Operator and installation: To identify the plant responsible for production, enter the name of the operator and the name of the installation.
Operator address and contact: These fields are partly filled in automatically, as the data is taken from your registration and your organization profile. If this is not the address and contact person of the specific facility, you can change the data. Also select the country in which the facility is operated. The country selection has a direct influence on the emission factor used for the calculation of indirect emissions (electricity) if you calculate these according to the Commission's rules.
Direct embedded emissions: Enter the Specific embedded direct emissions (t CO2e / t) here. These are the emissions generated during the manufacture of the product (= direct emissions from the production facilities and the direct embedded emissions from all relevant upstream products) in t CO₂e / unit. For complex products, you can also specify the percentage of emissions calculated using default values under Share of emission default values in %. This value may not exceed 20%.
Methodology: Selection of the Methodological basis used to calculate emissions. You can select either Commission rules or Other. If you have selected Other, you must also fill in the field Name of methodological basis next to it.
Indirect embedded emissions: Select the Source of the emission factor here. If you have selected Commission based on IEA data, the field Emission factor for electricity (t CO2 / MWh) is automatically filled in according to the country selected above. If you select Other, you can overwrite the Emission factor for electricity (t CO2 / MWh) and specify the Source of the emission factor value. Also select the Source of electricity and the Electricity consumed (MWh / unit). The Specific embedded indirect emissions (t CO2e / unit) field is then calculated automatically.
Reporting period: Define here the Start of the reporting period and the End of the reporting period in which you measured the emissions.
Note: This is not the period in which the data is considered valid!
How can data for several products be entered at the same time?
You can submit the data for products individually or use the bulk selection function to report the same data for several products - for example, if the products come from the same plant and have identical emission data.
To do this, activate the checkbox for all products for which you want to enter data in the Requested products list and then click NEXT.
What is the purpose of answering?
By answering these requests, you provide the necessary information to comply with the reporting obligations of your customer under the CBAM regulation.
What should you do if you are unable to provide the required emission data?
If you are unable to provide the data required for CBAM, you can also select the checkbox We hereby confirm that our organization is unable to provide all required information at this time, provide a justification in the pop-up that appears and click SUBMIT. Your customer will then receive back your partially completed response and will have to rely on EU default values for the CBAM reporting of your products.
